General Description:
Gioia’s internship is focused on exposing students in the fields of Construction Management or Civil Engineering to the means and methods of concrete construction. Students will learn about concrete construction through collaborative, hands-on field experience with one of the industry’s leaders. Opportunities for advancement are continuous.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist site supervisors with daily preparation, concrete pouring, and finishing processes.
- Rotate through field engineering (line and grade), forming, placing and finishing, and project engineering
- Aid in drafting quantity take-offs, managing Requests for Information (RFIs), and assisting with preconstruction
- Be responsible for the safety, quality, and execution of the assigned work objectives or daily tasks related to the project’s phase of work
- Plan and execute assigned tasks (work objectives) by performing and utilizing information, tools, and processes appropriate for the task or phase of work
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of the phase of work or task assigned by engaging and performing with the team
- Track production through various logs, including time and quantities and actual versus budget calculations, with the ability to analyze causes should variances occur
- Work under a dedicated mentor with a path toward a full-time role after graduation
Requirements:
- Current enrollment in a Construction Management or Civil Engineering program (GPA 2.5 and above)
- Work well in a team environment
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at heights multiple levels above ground
- Self-motivated, engaged, and eager to learn
- Organized and able to prioritize
- Desire to work hands-on in the field
- Current valid driver’s license and pre-employment drug screen
