General Description:
The General Superintendent is accountable for providing project leadership for field construction activities and personnel. This position ensures that the assigned projects meet budget, schedule, quality, and safety objectives. The General Superintendent is also influential in the management of other employees and helps to ensure that the company has the field personnel necessary to meet staffing needs. The General Superintendent participates in business development and estimating activities within their core competency. This role requires flexibility to work varied shifts, long hours (8–12), and occasional weekends as production schedules demand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise all activities, including determining method of construction, sequencing, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, and work schedule
- Participate in project turnover and preconstruction planning, reviewing drawings for constructability before work begins
- Own field quality control, ensuring finished work meets scope and specifications
- Train and develop experienced Foremen/Leads through a solid mentoring system
- Effectively communicate site problems, plan conflicts, schedule, and quality issues to the Project Manager and General Contractor
- Coordinate with other subcontractors to keep materials, equipment, and inspections on schedule
- Ensure that project safety protocols are implemented and followed, including Site Specific Safety Plans, JSA’s, Daily Activity Planner, and Tool Box Talks
- Track labor production and cost-to-complete against budget, and forecast cost and schedule for the Project Manager
- Perform project close-out and ensure punch list is completed in a timely manner
- Recruit, schedule, and develop field crews across all projects
- Visit jobsites daily to support foremen and remove obstacles to production
- Visit jobs before crews mobilize to ensure sites are ready for productive work
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular check-ins with GC superintendents
Requirements:
- A minimum of (5) years of experience on concrete construction projects in increasingly more responsible field supervisory capacity
- Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling and cost control
- Extensive working knowledge of all types of forming materials for the following: grade beams, walls, columns, elevated decks, flying decks, pan decks, all safety equipment that pertains to elevated structures and fall protection, shoring and re-shoring
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Exemplary leadership and high-level decision-making abilities
- Current valid driver’s license and pre-employment drug screen
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
